Hot Option Plays: Tough Trade In The After Hours

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 03:25 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner
What a day! If the earnings data and moves that I am seeing in the after hours are any reflection of what could be on tap tomorrow, the markets could be quite volatile Friday. Some of the most notable misses were NKE and RIMM, both missing by a large margin, .20 & 29 respectively, and both are down considerably after hours. The funny thing about Nike is that the 8% move down is a 1 standard deviation move and it happened in the after hours which is just ugly. Overnight … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Climbing The Wall Of Worry In Mining Stocks

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 02:30 PM PDT

We have climbed the wall of worry for over twenty years as wealth in the ground becomes increasingly desirable in a world that is threatened with the ghosts of depressions past.  We observe the doubters who regale us with such headlines as "The Fed's Big Move Is No Solution" or a noted economist writes that he senses the tone of urgency of Fed Governor Janet Yellen's remarks that "the scope remains to provide additional accommodation."  Yellen's comments are really … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 01:22 PM PDT

The Economist — “In unsurprising but good news, Case-Shiller reported new home price data this week that showed a definitive upward move in markets across the country. From March to April, Case-Shiller’s 10- and 20-city indexes rose 0.7%, seasonally adjusted. All but three of the tracked markets saw month-on-month increases. Half of tracked cities notched year-on-year price increases in April.

Price rises have looked imminent for some time. Sales figures have been trending upward and … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: On To The Next Headline

Cusick’s Corner 06-28-2012
“Buy the rumor, sell the news” — most scenarios that covered the health care law being upheld did not anticipate the market going down, especially the Health Care sector, XLV. So the decision is over, the market is down and now the EU is front and center. The Financials are under pressure, XLF, catalyzed by the fear that JPM’s trading losses may be well north of $2 billion. Energies, XLE -.45%, are also under pressure but are holding up better than the other … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Gold – A Pair Of Puzzling Surprises

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 11:04 AM PDT

With today being the 9th day since gold began its descent from 1635.4 it would seem reasonable to assume the sky is falling and gloom is directly ahead for gold bugs. But hold that thought while I show you a couple of rather puzzling surprises about gold’s recent price movement.

First off, I offer this daily chart spanning 2007 – 2012 of the Gold Futures (/GC). I have identified the various B and D-wave bottoms and C-wave tops within this time period. The chart also features that new … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

On an energy-equivalent basis, natural gas remains 87% cheaper than oil, equivalent to a price of $14 per barrel.
