Pepco Holdings Inc. (NYSE:POM) reported first quarter 2010 earnings from continuing operations of 27 cents per share, beating the year-ago figure of 13 cents and the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 20 cents.

The economy added a total of 244,000 jobs in April. That is much better than consensus expectations for a gain of 185,000. The increase is also better than the numbers put out on Wednesday by ADP that showed a gain of 179,000 private sector jobs. Government payrolls declined by 24,000 and the private sector added a total of 268,000.
