TODAY'S SUMMARY
Legal aid cuts will hurt the most vulnerable
16 November 2010
The speed and severity of cuts to legal aid will once again disproportionately hurt the poorest and most vulnerable, says the Guardian in an editorial. Meanwhile, on his BBC blog, Robert Peston explains why the real liquidity crisis in Ireland is that lenders are reluctant to lend. Elsewhere, in the Times, Rachel Sylvester warns that changing the House of Lords could damage the running of the country - an elected senate might not have the same independence, expertise and bloody-mindedness. Over at the Financial Times, Gideon Rachman argues that the comparisons between Aung San Suu Kyi and Nelson Mandela could be premature as Burma's military junta still looks determined to retain power. Finally, in the New York Times, Paul Krugman criticises President Obama for negotiating with himself before he even gets to the negotiating table with the Republicans.
