The royal wedding is of no interest to many
17 November 2010
The royal engagement is of no interest to many Britons, writes David Aaronovitch in the Times, attacking the transformation of the event into a "totalitarian joy".Meanwhile, in the Daily Mail, Dominic Sandbrook says it is a relief to see the royal family at last embracing a girl from an ordinary British family. In the Guardian, Jonathan Freedland warns that the cuts to the legal aid budget will close the law to all but those with money. Elsewhere, in the Daily Telegraph, Simon Heffer says that Britain needs to prepare for an economic dark age in the eurozone and look for new markets in America and Asia. Finally, in the Independent, David Prosser argues that Britain should rethink introducing the VAT rise if it wants to avoid a double-dip recession.
