TODAY'S SUMMARY
Whatever happened to the old Nick Clegg?
12 November 2010
Johann Hari of the Independent argues that Nick Clegg is a "willing dupe" of the Tory ideology, and is wrong to deem the cuts "necessary". The demand that Panorama delays its investigation into corruption in football's international governing body, Fifa, is outrageous, says Simon Jenkins of the Guardian. Bagehot of the Economist says that social welfare reform across Europe is due to people living longer, and not due to globalisation, and that this is an undeniable yet cheerful fact. Allison Pearson of the Daily Telegraph insists that politicians should reconsider the merits of grammar schools as the key to increasing opportunities for Britain's underprivileged children. Finally, over in America, EJ Dionne Jr of the Washington Post states that moderate Democrats would do well to call attention to how out of touch the Republicans are, instead of internalising the views of the opposition.
