Forex Trading: EUR/USD Breaks Out From Consolidation

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 07:19 AM PDT

Well, well, well. The EURUSD pair or the fiber as what traders call it in the streets appears to have broken out from a rectangle or consolidation.

What it did was it only corrected to its 50% Fibonacci retracement level. It then continued to range or trade sideways until yesterday where it broke … [visit site to read more]

With the most important elections in our lifetime  – since the last election at least — less than 8 weeks away, the pulse of the country is clearly beating and sending a strong message. What is the tone of that message? Americans are increasingly sickened by the standard 'business as usual' politics and are getting ready to 'throw the bums out.'

In light of the disasters that have played out on our political and economic landscapes, can you blame America at this juncture for … [visit site to read more]

On the Investment Postcards blog in August I pointed out what was happening to the Baltic Dry Index and what the surge in that index implied. Thankfully, my analysis turned out to be … [visit site to read more]

FNB/BER Consumer Confidence Shows Firm Bias

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 02:30 AM PDT

By Cees Bruggemans, Chief Economist FNB.
FNB/BER consumer confidence has improved minimally from +14 in 2Q2010 to +15 in the 3Q2010, effectively staying unchanged at this high level for three quarters now, but strongly up from +1 a year ago and much higher than the cyclical low of –4 two years ago.
Most remarkable about the 3Q2010 survey result is that South African consumer confidence remains in boom-time territory reminiscent of 2006-2007, and on a par with previous cyclical peaks in 1994, … [visit site to read more]

But how unusually uncertain is South Africa's new business upswing really? Is there reason for worry? And what policy action may we still expect, if any?
No two business cycles are ever quite the same. Their upswings, peaks, downswings and troughs all differ, mostly minutely but sometimes more than average, in length, amplitude and rate … [visit site to read more]
