| Will there ever be a true heir to Blair?
11 August 2010
In the Times, Daniel Finkelstein says the question Tony Blair needs to answer is why Blairism died and argues that not one of the Labour leadership candidates can be termed a Blairite. Elsewhere, in the Guardian, Simon Jenkins excoriates the left for its allegedly feeble response to David Cameron's war on the state. Meanwhile, in the Financial Times, Matthew Taylor examines the "colossal risks" faced by Cameron and says that the coalition will lose all credibility if the spending cuts trigger a double-dip recession. In international politics, the New York Times's Bob Herbert warns that the US government is failing to tackle dangerously high unemployment with the urgency required. Finally, in the Daily Telegraph, Con Coughlin says that Obama's plan to withdraw US troops from Iraq ignores the fact that the civilian population desperately wants them to stay.
