Chile Keeps Rate Steady, Economy Better Than Forecast

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 03:48 PM PDT

The central bank of Chile kept its interest rate unchanged at 5.0 percent, as widely expected, and said domestic economic activity and demand was better than it forecast in June due to strong inventory stocking and consumption.
Banco Central de Chile said international financial conditions had improved and strains in the euro zone had eased slightly.
”However, uncertainty remains, the risk premium in some European economies remain very high and can not … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Watch For A Potential Markup Early

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 03:13 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 08-16-2012
There is not much to take away on the close today that we haven’t seen over the last three sessions. Tomorrow’s open could bring some new highs, potentially challenge 1422 on the S&Ps, but I have found it hard to jump in on this momentum to the upside. If any activity is going on right now it might be some traders potentially taking profits on the upside at this stage of the expiration cycle. I will be interested to see if the market will hold any pop on the open. … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Stock Picks For Friday August 17

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 03:01 PM PDT

On Tuesday, I mentioned PulteGroup, Inc.(NYSE:PHM) as a potential breakout play. Sure enough, the stock broke out today. Technical chart shows very strong bullish sign. I’m using today's high of $13.75 as resistance for Friday. A break above that area could trigger further bullish momentum and keep the bullish scenario intact. You should use the pullbacks as an opportunity to add fresh longs.

Cattle Prices Rise On Potential Labor Day Demand

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 02:11 PM PDT

Wednesday, August 15, 2012
The severe drought that has plagued a vast portion of the U.S. appears to have set-up a difficult period for livestock producers this year. The rapid decrease in herd sizes as lighter weight cattle and breeding inventories are brought to market may start to weigh on near-term futures, but likely sets the stage for potentially sharply higher prices in 2013.

Coffee Bears Continue To Have Upper Hand

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 02:11 PM PDT

Thursday, August 16, 2012
Coffee futures have continued to slump, losing half of their value since early May of 2011. Weather conditions in Brazil will, along with the physical market, continue to be a major influence on prices in the near-term. If current conditions persist, growers should be able to shrug-off the slow start to the harvest and come out unscathed. In that scenario, the overabundance of supplies will continue to be a major concern. Technically speaking, traders may want to pay … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Hairbraider Vs. Oregon’s Cosmetology Cartel

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 01:09 PM PDT

Warning: This activity is illegal in the state of Oregon without a government license.

The Oregonian featured this article recently “Braiding African American hair at center of overregulation battle in Oregon,” about occupational licensing in general, but with a special focus on hairbraiding in Oregon.  To perform hairbraiding in Oregon, even for free, currently requires a state cosmetology license, which involves 1,700 hours of training in a beauty school at a cost of … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Evaluating The Wisdom Of Buying Gold

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 12:35 PM PDT

At the end of January 2008, I posted a discussion about how the book The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki could explain gold's price climb. The book's premise was basically that "large groups of people are smarter than an elite few."
Even before the height of the global crisis, there was a "wise crowd" of institutional and individual investors who had been buying gold as a safe haven from currency risks and the trillions of dollars invested in derivatives, and as a way to … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Long-term Rates Don’t Always Track Short Rates-BOC Study

Posted: 16 Aug 2012 11:24 AM PDT

A cut in short-term interest rates by central banks during an economic recession does not necessarily lead to a fall in long-term interest rates, according to a study in the Bank of Canada’s Summer Review.
Central banks typically use open market operations to control short-term interest rates and rely on this signal to be transmitted to the economically important long-term rates that govern the cost of credit to consumers and businesses.
But this … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards
