Rescued Banks Engaged In Riskier Lending – BIS Paper

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 04:07 PM PDT

Banks that received public funds during the 2008 financial crises were involved in riskier lending than banks that did not need a government bailout, according to a working paper published by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
The paper, by economists Michael Brei and Blaise Gadanecz, examined the loan risk of 87 banks - 40 of which received public funds – and found that before the crisis, the rescued institutions had a significantly … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD) continued trading above the short-term moving averages. The technical indicators still indicate a bullish tone in short-term. The support level is located at $4.74 and the resistance is still at $5.02.

Hot Option Plays: Pre-Fed Chop Continues

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 03:17 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-31-2012
I continue to not chase the market in either direction — the market is just too choppy and uncertain right now. The only market that has reacted as I thought it might was Crude, USO -2.30% — the pricing looked out of whack, running up too far, too fast. From my perspective, this market pre-Fed announcement has not been giving great risk/reward, and as I have been alluding to in recent Corners, there is too much uncertainty to trade with conviction. See you … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Happy100th Birthday Milton Friedman!

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 12:43 PM PDT

Milton Friedman was born on this day, July 31, in 1912 and he would have been 100 years old today.  Unfortunately, Milton died on November 16, 2006 when he was 94 years old.  Coincidentally, that was just several months after the Carpe Diem blog started in September 2006.  A custom Google search of Carpe Diem reveals that “Milton Friedman” has “appeared” on this blog more than 1,200 times in the last six years, and his ideas, quotes and videos should be familiar to all regular … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Selling Is Modest Into The Midday

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 12:19 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-31-2012
The market action into the Midday is mixed. The pressure is mounting for more details from the Fed. Support levels are currently being challenged, 1375 on the S&Ps, and if you look at the advance/decline, the action has been hitting on the decliners side. This selling is modest at this stage but the bid is clearly not present on these latest dips. I will be keeping an eye on the selling pressure into the After Hours.

Gold And Silver Breaking Out Before Fed Meeting: Will It Hold?

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 11:31 AM PDT

Despite the pandemic of negativity recently with regard to economic growth, we should listen to the market rather than the messages of the media.  The equity markets are telling us that despite all of this gloom, one can note positive technical developments.  Let's look at the tape and resist the bourses function in confusing and misdirecting the investor.

Noted with interest is the persistence of the Dow Jones Industrial Average to remain above the 200 day moving … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Mortgage Rates, Credit Card Rewards or Best Credit Cards
