Markets In Everything: $40 Foot-Powered Washing Machine That Could Change Millions Of Lives

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 04:51 PM PDT

From Fast Company — “About a year ago, two students from the Art Center College of Design named Alex Cabunoc and Ji A You traveled from Los Angeles to Cerro Verde, a 30,000 person slum outside of Lima, Peru. Their goal? Develop a commercial product that alleviates issues related to water poverty, targeted at people who earn between $4 and $10 a day.”

Here’s what they came up with:

“The GiraDora (see picture above and video demonstration below) is a blue bucket that conceals a … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Beware False Prophets?

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 04:28 PM PDT

President Nixon would not be a crook on today’s standards. The standards are low set by Wall street, most media and all central banks. The Fed is meeting on July 31 and every one is gaming the fed, its worse than Vegas. There may be a SP500 pop up on hope, which is then followed by a collapse as the Fed holds off to September.

Of course if the Fed disappoints at the July 31 FOMC meeting then September 12 is a sure thing, and the markets will start to price this in August.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — “A new study says North Dakota’s oil production could jump more than threefold by 2025 to more than 2 million barrels a day.

The study released Wednesday by Bentek Energy LLC of Colorado also says natural gas production could more than quintuple by 2025 in the Williston Basin. The basin includes the Dakotas and Montana.”

MP: If oil production in North Dakota increases to 2 million barrels per day from current daily production of 639,000 barrels, that would be … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: AAPL Falls From Tree

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 03:13 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-24-2012
Now I know how Newton felt! AAPL misses, down $31 in the After Hours and taking the NASDAQ with it, down -26 after the close. Now APPL makes up ~18% of that index so it makes sense that it would take the NASDAQ down too. It will be interesting to see where the stock opens tomorrow, especially after they announced poor earnings and revised guidance but there will also be a $2.65 cash dividend which goes “ex” on August 13th (you have to own the stock through that date … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Metals On The Move

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 03:13 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-25-2012
After Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) earnings miss, the “QE” chatter has been a dominant headline. At this stage I am blocking it out and focusing on the market environment and earnings. Volatility has ticked up but possibly not enough to make some premium sellers feel like they are being paid enough. Gold, GLD, & Silver, SLV, are markets that I am watching closely, both have spiked today. A lot of this is due to the potential of Fed intervention and if this unconfirmed Fed … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Volatility Drops?

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 03:13 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-25-2012
What a day — the Small & Mid Caps, IWM/MDY, continue to struggle (not a good sign for the US economy) and are breaking long-term support (200-Day Moving Average). Tech, QQQ, continues to get beat up and the sellers were out in force today. Lastly, Metals and Miners, XME, are trading lower, yet another flag of potentially more global weakness, but Volatility as measured by the VIX, was down ~4% — makes you scratch your head! While the “fear index” has pulled … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Shares of AOL, Inc. (AOL) surged 7.2% to $29.48 per share breaking out an important resistance with heavy volume. We should be able to see some decent upside movement for the bulls here. Technically, the stock still in a very strong bull market with MACD on top of signal line and 50-day moving average on top of 200-day moving average. Wednesday's high of $29.60 is resistance for the next upside move.

New Zealand Holds Rate, Less Pessimistic About Euro Crises

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 02:04 PM PDT

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) held its benchmark Official Cash Rate (OCR) unchanged at 2.50 percent, as expected, and said inflation was expected to settle around its target in the medium term and the domestic economy was expected to expand modestly over the next few years.
Although the RBNZ said the outlook for its trading partners, including the euro zone, remains poor, the central bank struck a more optimistic tone about the outlook than many other … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Shouldn’t We Be Doing The Same?

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 01:45 PM PDT

Three weeks ago, we learned that the CEOs of large companies are growing concerned about the outlook.
“Survey: CEO Confidence in Economy Drops Dramatically” (The Hill)
The confidence of the nation's business leaders in the future of the economy has dropped dramatically, according to a new survey by the Conference Board.
More CEOs surveyed view the economy negatively than positively. Only 17 percent viewed the economy positively in the second quarter of 2012, compared to 67 percent in the … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

In A Letter To Congress, Some Economists Refute The Law Of Demand And Propose A 35% Increase In The Minimum Wage To Stimulate The Economy

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 11:55 AM PDT

A group of prominent economist including Robert Reich, Jeffrey Sachs, Joseph Stiglitz and Laura Tyson have sent a letter to Congressional leaders recommending a 35% increase in the minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $9.80 per hour by 2014.

The group identifies the following benefits from a 35% increase in the minimum wage:

1. “This policy would directly provide higher wages for close to 20 million workers by 2014. Furthermore, another nearly 9 million workers whose wages are just above … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards
