Hot Option Plays: Canary Still Chirping

Today was a day best spent managing your shorts if you had them on and not chasing the markets after the open we saw today. The market needs to reestablish support above 1350 on the S&Ps if the bid is going to gain any further conviction. This action has to be a little disconcerting to the Bears because that open this morning was as ugly as it gets and there was not the conviction selling one would think there would be — volume was light. The two things that I do … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

An Even Better Thing

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 01:46 PM PDT

Last week I wrote that “it’s a good thing we’re in a recovery and there’s no real prospect of another downturn (at least that’s what Wall Street ‘strategists’ and politicians keep telling us).” Otherwise, a variety of negative reports about conditions in this country (which I cited in the article) “might be a cause for concern.”
I’d add that it’s an even better thing that economic woes overseas are unlikely to have any real impact on the pace of growth in the U.S., as “economists” and other … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

America’s Competitive Spirit

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 01:00 PM PDT

One of the few things that Barack Obama and Mitt Romney can agree on is that our economy is still struggling to regain its strength. Stubborn unemployment and sluggish growth at home combined with a slowing China and a dysfunctional eurozone have cast a dark shadow on America's eternal optimism. The media favors negative news and the 24/7 cycle of gloom and doubt can be dispiriting.
We are always looking for the economic points of light around the globe and strive to provide a counterpoint to … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Volatility Is Back

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 12:31 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-23-2012
The market opened this new week with more volatility and ugly — getting to levels that I did not expect to see on the open. Now the market has bounced back into the midday, but we should not sugar coat this move. I am currently looking at some potential earnings plays and the most notable would be revolved around Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) which right now has an expected move going into the earnings of $31.45, ~5% using the weekly options. While the bid is buoying the market at … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Using Options To Trade AAPL Earnings

Posted: 23 Jul 2012 09:09 AM PDT

Trading stock around the times of earnings releases is a notoriously difficult operation because it requires accurate prediction of the direction of price movement. Wrong predictions can expose the trader to substantial loss if large unexpected moves occur against his position.
Because of the risk associated with these events, many traders use options to define their risk and protect their trading capital. The purpose of my missive today is to present several approaches to using options to … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards
