Hot Option Plays: Bulls Grab Momentum

Cusick’s Corner 07-27-2012
The momentum was in the buyer’s corner all day. It didn’t look like there was really any decent opportunity to put some shorts on. This momentum looks like it has the potential to continue early next week. Next week will be another busy earnings week and thus far many companies have continued to under-perform market expectations. Got to run, my son is in the final game of their world series. Have a good weekend.

Energy Fact Of The Day: U.S. Crude Oil Production (ex-Alaska) Reaches A 23-Year High In June

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 02:21 PM PDT

One of the more interesting items buried in today’s 213-page Monthly Energy Review from the EIA (full report here) is the fact that U.S. crude oil production for the lower 48 states is estimated to have reached a 23-year high in June of 5.74 million barrels per day (see chart above, data here).  That would be the highest monthly crude oil production in the lower 48 states since 5.76 million daily barrels of oil were produced in June of 1989.  During the first half of 2012, the EIA … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Colombia Cuts Interest Rate By 25 Bps To 5.0%

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 02:15 PM PDT

Colombia’s central bank cut its key interest rates by 25 basis point to 5.0 percent due to slowing growth and declining inflation, with two board members suggesting an even-larger reduction. The cut was expected by some, but not all economists.
Banco de la Republica Colombia said global economic growth was weakening more than expected  and excess global capacity and lower commodity prices were moderating inflationary pressures.

Still At Odds

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 02:06 PM PDT

Today’s data did little to change the fact that ordinary Americans’ views of current economic conditions remain at the odds with what Washington and Wall Street keep telling us.
If the history of the past decade or so is any guide, either consumer sentiment is poised for significant improvement, or, more likely, the indicators that the so-called experts are so keenly focused on, including gross domestic product and the stock market, are set for a major downward … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Weekly Update On The Bakken Boom, It Just Keeps Getting Better And Better All The Time

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 11:54 AM PDT

Bruce Oskol of the Million Dollar Way blog sends along these recent updates on the impressive Bakken boom:

1. Diversified energy company ONEOK (NYSE: OKE, currently trading at an all-time high of $45.21 per share, and 26% above a year ago) announced $1 billion of new investments in energy projects, including a fourth (and unplanned) 100 million cubic feet natural gas processing facility in the Bakken. This is huge.

2. Bentek Energy predicts a natural gas boom for the Bakken. … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

QE3?

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 11:40 AM PDT

Arguments for:
The dual mandate is getting lopsided. Inflation is low and falling; employment growth has stalled, and the unemployment rate is stuck above 8 %. Whatever trade-off or balance before, it has tipped recently.
We may have a double dip. We are on the verge of the third consecutive weak GDP quarter, if you consider that the 3% growth in the 4th quarter was two-thirds inventory accumulation. We've had the 3 consecutive months of weak employment growth. Add three consecutive months of … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Market Had A Good Day

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 11:36 AM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-26-2012
What a difference a day makes — the S&Ps tested resistance at 1360. There was strength in the Miners and Metals along with the Semiconductors and Telecom – these are offensive segments that need to continue to exude strength. The Euro Currency, FXE, will continue to be my barometer of any progress/intervention into the ever dire EU situation. I unfortunately did not get any of my earnings plays this afternoon but I am not going to force it. Hot Option Plays: Stcok Market Extending Gains

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 11:36 AM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 07-27-2012
The S&Ps are having a nice run through resistance into the Midday. While the overall sentiment in the market appears to be that the Fed & ECB will do some sort of monetary infusion, it still is nothing more than talk. Next week the Fed will be the main focus, so I will be trading with continued tight parameters. See you After Hours.

Soaring Dividend Payouts Reward Income Investors

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 09:13 AM PDT

UK corporates proved during the second quarter of this year that they are increasingly willing to reward their shareholders with dividends. In fact, the latest figures seem to have taken analysts aback, with records tumbling all over the place.
Investors typically get mailed their biggest divi cheques of the year between April and June, and 2012 marked a return to pre-recession levels, with payouts reaching £22.6bn. Records had already been broken in the first quarter of the year when … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards
