Hot Option Plays: Financials Hit As Vol Pops

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 03:29 PM PDT

Cusick’s Corner 06-11-2012
The banks were under pressure, XLF -1.87%, and the market reacted negatively. Last week I made references to the Financials, XLF, Euro Currency, FXE, and Small Caps, IWM. The Small Caps are a worry, IWM -2.21%, the action today is confirming the bearish action of the After Hours. The Moody’s headlines have the banks getting hit from two fronts — it is potentially getting harder to trade derivatives and more expensive to potentially do business. So as the banking … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Arena Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ARNA) hit a new 52-week high today, and its chart is indicating that there may be more upside. The stock is still trading above all its key DMAs which are pointing upwards. In addition the Accum/Dist indicator continues to trend north and MACD above 0. The Parabolic SAR also continues with its buy signal. Pullbacks should be used to enter into the stock.

Stiff Rejection At 1,336

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 02:16 PM PDT

The E-Mini S&P 500 found major resistance at 1,336 today, which sparked heavy selling pressure throughout the day. Could a trip back toward the June lows be ahead? My thoughts..
Lower Value
The ES opened the session with a gap up this morning, as price opened near the monthly pivot point of 1,336, but was met with immediate selling pressure that lasted the entire session.

The (Ever-Expanding) War Next Door

With reports like this –
“In Small-Town USA, Business as Usual for Mexican Cartels” (CNN)
Wilmington, North Carolina — Less than a mile off a county road in Ivanhoe near the Black River, federal drug agents and local authorities found exactly what their informant had promised.
“We saw what looked like, as far as you could see, marijuana plants,” said Drug Enforcement Administration agent Michael Franklin.
There were about 2,400 in all, surrounded by a makeshift camp where the growers had … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Hot Option Plays: Toro, Toro

Cusick’s Corner
“Toro, Toro!” The bullfight began in the overnight and then continued into the morning when the market looked ready to charge and the S&Ps were up 15 points. However, into the midday the market has pulled back and at this stage is unable to charge through resistance. This is setting up to be a choppy week with resistance at 1340 and support at 1304. This is a headline market at this stage, so positioning should probably be more tight and scaled. See you After Hours.

Buy TC At $3.35

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 12:52 PM PDT

Everyone likes to buy something, stocks or otherwise, at a price they consider a great value. And I have been researching Thompson Creek Metals Co Inc (NYSE:TC) for a couple weeks now, thinking its shares may be available at a price that I would consider them a great value. Today that opportunity presented itself and though I was a little too excited to wait another hour for the best possible price, hey, I’m human and now I own the shares at $3.35.

Understanding Implied Volatility When Trading Options – Part 1

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 10:17 AM PDT

We have recently discussed the importance of routinely considering the value of implied volatility in a historical perspective for each underlying before considering any of the various option positions potentially appropriate for trading a given underlying security, index, or ETF. Failure to consider this data represents a major cause of the failure of otherwise favorable option positions.
That is not the end of the story with implied volatility and understanding "the rest of the story" can … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

China Eases The Way

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 10:10 AM PDT

Following negative data last week, investors were clearly concerned about global growth and anxiously anticipated government actions. While Europe and the U.S. disappointed investors, China surprised on the upside by cutting interest rates. The market reacted positively, as the S&P 500 Index increased 3.7 percent.
It's clear the government's tone in China shifted this week with the rate cuts. The government appeared to be comfortable with slower growth, but that position seemed to … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards
