Talking Points

Crude Oil, Copper to Follow Stocks Higher on Supportive Fed Outlook
Gold and Silver Vulnerable if FOMC Outcome Dents QE3 Bets Further

The spotlight is pointing squarely at the Federal Reserve policy announcement today. Bull Of The Day: Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG)

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 11:03 PM PDT

We upgrade our rating for Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG) to Outperform. First quarter earnings per share of $3.50 beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Gynecology and prostatectomy procedures did well in 2011, as did certain emerging procedures.
Recurring revenue continues to grow as a proportion of sales. In the interim, the installed base of Intuitive is expanding as more hospitals feel compelled to upgrade their technology. Overall, a proper valuation is appropriate given positive factors … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Bear Of The Day: Leggett & Platt, Inc. (LEG)

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 11:03 PM PDT

Leggett & Platt, Inc.’s (NYSE:LEG) fourth-quarter 2011 earnings of $0.22 per share were up from the prior-period level, but we believe it was inorganic growth primarily spurred by the company’s share buyback program. Moreover, during the quarter, Leggett’s gross margin contracted 90 basis points to 16.7% due to higher input costs.
Further, the company’s operating margin shriveled 470 basis points to 1.5% due to increased selling and administrative expenses. we believe that intense competition … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

I’ve written extensively over the last several years about how the shale gas revolution is transforming the U.S. economy in ways that would have been unimaginable a decade ago.  Descriptions of this revolution include:

Mort Zuckerman: “The good news is that the United States is at the center of a global energy revolution. Our development of innovative shale-gas technology offers the prospect of a huge bonanza of natural gas. It’s the most positive event in the country’s energy outlook in … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Traffic Volume Increases In Feb. For Third Month

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 07:40 PM PDT

Despite rising gas prices this year, overall traffic volume increased in both January by 1.6% and in February by 1.8%, compared to year-earlier levels, according to data released this week by the Federal Highway Administration. The 1.8% increase in February was the largest annual gain in monthly travel volume since October 2010.  Perhaps the increase in traffic volume was due to the mild winter weather this year, or maybe it reflects an economic recovery that is gradually gaining … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

DQ News –”The number of California homes entering the formal foreclosure process during the first quarter declined to its lowest level in almost five years, the result of a more stable economy and housing market, as well as policies that increasingly favor short sales.
