Bear Of The Day: Ultra Petroleum Corp. (UPL)

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 11:08 PM PDT

Concerned by the current weak sentiment for natural gas, we are downgrading Ultra Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:UPL) shares to Underperform from Neutral. The glut in domestic gas supplies continues to weigh on the fundamentals, and storage levels remain well above their benchmark levels. This translates into a bearish near-to-medium term outlook for natural gas-weighted companies like Ultra.
Taking a cautious view of prices, the company’s capital program this year is cutting on dry natural gas … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Has The Real Estate Market Finally Bottomed Out?

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 08:20 PM PDT

Following this CD post from last Saturday “Has the Real Estate Market Finally Bottomed Out?” comes this WSJ article “Rise in Phoenix Housing Shows Path for Other Cities”:

“As home prices continue to drop in most cities, a nascent real-estate rebound here holds lessons for the rest of the country. This sprawling desert metropolis was one of the hardest hit housing markets during the bust. How Housing Policy Caused The Financial Crisis

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 07:39 PM PDT

Reason.tv — “AEI’s Peter Wallison argues in the video above that the financial meltdown was largely a consequence of government housing policy that underwrote unsustainable economic activity. He draws heavily on the research of Fannie Mae’s former chief credit officer, Edward Pinto (now at AEI), which found that federal housing agencies drastically underreported the number of high-risk mortgages on their books. According to Wallison and Pinto, there were about 28 million high-risk mortgages … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

In “7 Reasons Why The Jobs Recovery Is Real This Time,” the Associated Press details what I would consider to be the positive spin on a variety of economic and political developments [highlighted in red italic for clarity]. In the interest of fairness and balance, I thought it only right to annotate each of their bullet points with statistics, reports, and arguments that show things in a different light:

Manufacturing Boom In Michigan, Partly Due To Reshoring; U.S. Factories Are Competitive Again

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 06:33 PM PDT

Michigan-based Collegiate Bead Company, manufacturer of college and sorority beads, bracelets, and charms, is featured in the CBS Evening News segment above, and in this Detroit Free Press article.  It’s an example of the reshoring trend now underway in the U.S. where manufacturing production and jobs are being brought back to the U.S. from China and other low-wage countries.

Reasons? China’s cost advantages are shrinking due to rapidly rising costs there for wages, inputs, … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

Forex Trading: EUR/USD Testing Resistance @ 1.3172

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 06:22 PM PDT

The Euro got a little bit of a boost from a better than expected UK RICS housing price release which brought the EUR/USD up to a session high of 1.31716; testing resistance at the 61.8% on the move from the March 9th high down to yesterday's low. Currently resistance is holding; we may see possible support around 1.3158 where we find the 50.0% fibo line and the 200 bar moving … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards

March 2012 = December 2010?

Posted: 12 Mar 2012 12:40 AM PDT

I wrote back on February 22, 2012 to expect a period of consolidation and correction, but the intermediate trend remained up. Last week, we saw the stock markets decline for 1% or more on Tuesday. Since then, equities have been flat. There is no doubt that correction is here.

Which analog? March 2011 or Dec 2010?
At the same time, a number of bears have suggested the current market is similar to the conditions of March/April 2011 when the market began to top out and ultimately fell, … [visit site to read more] or compare Credit Card Rewards and Best Credit Cards
