School Specialty Inc. (NASDAQ:SCHS) posted better-than-expected third-quarter 2012 results on the back of effective cost management and margin improvement. However, budgetary constraint and a competitive pricing environment remain the headwinds.

Lowe's Companies Inc. (NYSE:LOW), the world's second largest home improvement retailer, recently posted better-than-expected fourth-quarter 2011 results. The quarterly earnings of 29 cents a share beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 23 cents and jumped 38.1% from 21 cents earned in the prior-year quarter.
