Trade Deficit Falls In September

The Trade Deficit fell in September to $43.11 billion from $44.92 billion (revised down from $45.61 billion) in August. That is a 4.02% decline for the month (and a 5.48% decline from the pre-revision level). That was much better than the expected deficit of $45.9 billion.

That, combined with the revision to the August numbers, would indicate that when we get the next look at the third quarter GDP numbers, growth will be revised up from the 2.5% growth rate reported in the first look.

Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance fell again this week. This week they fell by 10,000 but only after the previous week was revised up by 3,000. So regardless if you count it as a drop of 10,000 or 7,000, we are still at 390,000. That was better than the expected level of 400,000.

There is a lot of choppy action in the EURUSD.  The corrective move to the upside earlier in the NY session peaked nicely at the 1.3652 area (see chart above). This was a key target for the pair outlined earlier today in my posts.
