ISM Manufacturing Index Comes In Better Than Expected, USD Gains On EUR, JPY

The manufacturing sector in the US faced a sharp slowdown in May, as the ISM Manufacturing PMI fell from 60.4 in April to 53.5 in May. Expectations coming into the June data was for another decline to 51.9 as weaker growth in the US mixed with the aftereffects of supply disruptions as a result of the earthquake in Japan.
However, the release came in better than expected, posting a reading of 55.3.
