Initial Claims Fall Slightly

Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance fell by 1,000 last week to 428,000. This was worse than the expected level of 420,000. Last week's numbers were unrevised. The trend in initial claims had downward, although there were some bumps along the way. Recently they seem stuck once again in a trading range above the 400,000 level. That is a very worrisome trend.
