As the government’s current debt is just $333 billion shy of the ceiling, an immediate action to push the ceiling further up is essential to save the country from defaulting on its obligation, Geithner said.

Forex Pros – The euro eased off a four-month low against the dollar on Monday, but gains were limited as lingering concerns over euro zone sovereign debt deterred investors.

EUR/USD clawed up from 1.2875, the pair's lowest since September 14, to hit 1.291 during European late afternoon trade, gaining 0.03%.

The pair was likely to find support at 1.2702, the low of September 13 and resistance at 1.302, last Friday's high.

Over the weekend, reports in the German press suggested that … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

FX Levels And Outlooks 1.10.2011 EUR/USD GBP/USD USD/JPY

EUR/USD Might Not See as Sharp a Correction as Other USD-CrossesResistance 1: 1.1.2970-1.30; R2: 1.3050
Support 1: 1.2875; S2, 1.28

- The EUR/USD is consolidation sideways as the 1H RSI shows an extended bullish divergence. Note this divergence is accompanied by negative reversals, so at best these corrections have been sideways.
- The lower targets below the current support pivot of 1.2875 are 1.28 and 1.26.
- Although the 1H RSI is no longer in oversold zone, the 4H RSI might have to … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

U.S. Stocks Decline After The Open; Dow Jones Down 0.76%

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 07:05 AM PST

Forex Pros – U.S. stocks were down after the open on Monday, as shares in the financial sector were hit by ongoing fears over the euro zone's sovereign debt crisis and as energy-related stocks declined.

During early U.S. trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.76%; the S&P 500 index slumped 0.66%, while the Nasdaq Composite index was down 0.34%.

In the financial sector, shares performed poorly as worries about Europe’s debt crisis intensified, following reports that … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Head And Shoulder In USD/JPY Suggests 82.27 Target

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 07:03 AM PST

USD/JPY's Head and Shoulder Forming

USD/JPY 1/11/0211

4H and 1H: Head and shoulder formation is spotted in the USD/JPY 1H chart IF the 82.85 neckline is broken. We might want to go down to the 15-min chart to see the break in more detail, and see if there is a pullback to confirm the head and shoulder.
Below 82.27 is the 82.00(61.8% retracement seen in 1H chart) and then the 81.65 support area.
The USD/JPy was strong to end the week and appears to have completed a bullish impulse … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Forex Trading: EURUSD Misbehaving. Regrouping

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:57 AM PST

Do I have any confidence today? I can not say it I do. Here is how we stand:

Triple bottom at 1.2873.
Double top at 1.2938
1.2904 = 100 and 200 bar MA on 5 minute chart
Perhaps some interim targets at 1.2924 on the top and 1.2893 on the bottom.

The non trending nature of the action today says that the market is unsure of the bias.  Trading against the extremes seems logical. However, a break – and it might take a move at the 11:00 AM London fix – should solicit action.

Forex – EUR/JPY Close To 4-month Low As Debt Worries Remain

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:31 AM PST

Forex Pros – The euro was trading just above a four month low against the yen on Monday, as concerns that Portugal will be the next euro zone member to request a bailout sent the cost of insuring European sovereign debt against default soaring.

EUR/JPY hit 106.98 during European afternoon trade, the daily low; the pair subsequently consolidated at 107.1, shedding 0.18%.

The pair was likely to find short-term support at 106.93, last Friday's low and a four month low and resistance at … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Euro Fights Back On Rising Risk-aversion

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:11 AM PST

Investors began the week by hoisting a variety of red-warning flags bringing risk aversion to the fore after a string of positive data left them embracing global recovery. Fears of overheating in Asia are proving to be a remedy for rising local dollars. More bullet-dodging across the Eurozone is expected as a variety of less-than-core governments auction bonds set against a deteriorating background. A surge in consumption in Australia is second-tier news against a foreground of worsening … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Stock Investor Sentiment: Extremus Maximus

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 08:30 AM PST

When it comes to investor enthusiasm for this market, there is only one thing I can say: even the extremes have become extreme.  This is an high wire act -without a safety net – that I have chosen not to play.  The rare exception to too many bulls is that “it takes bulls to make a bull market”, and under such conditions, the markets just continue higher despite the wildly bullish sentiment readings.  Think 1995, 1998/99, 2003 and 2009 when the extreme bullish sentiment readings … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates
