Posted: 23 Jan 2011 02:01 AM PST

"My friend tells me that he paid off a old collection and his FICO credit score did not go up. I have an old collection, and I want to buy a house.  What do I do?" asked Joshua.

"We still might be able to get you a mortgage" I replied.  "First, let us try to understand what FICO is trying to do.  They are trying to predict who is likely to be 90-days late within the next 24 months.
