TODAY'S SUMMARY
Protests make no practical difference to policy
09 December 2010
The coalition has broken more promises in a shorter period than any other government in modern times, says Stephen Glover in the Daily Mail, and it is just a matter of time before it is punished. Meanwhile, in the Independent, Steve Richards argues that protests make no practical difference to policies whatsoever, although they do show that the younger generation is politicised. Over at the Financial Times, Gordon Brown argues that Asia will soon have consumer power to rival the Americas, a shift that could help the west exit its continuing crisis. Elsewhere, in the Times, Tim Montgomerie explains why David Cameron must assert himself as the leader of mainstream conservatism. Finally, in the Guardian, Mya Guarnieri expresses dismay at the racist decree issued by Israeli rabbis, forbidding Jews to rent or sell property to non-Jews - namely Arabs, migrant workers or African refugees.
