TODAY'S SUMMARY
Trouble ahead for the coalition
20 December 2010
In the Guardian, Jackie Ashley wonders whether David Cameron will still get a free ride in 2011 when the coalition's cuts begin to be felt. Also writing in the Guardian, the new Unite leader, Len McCluskey, calls for a broad strike movement to combat the coalition's attack on the welfare state. According to Fraser Nelson in the Spectator, the coalition can also expect a fight with local councils as their budgets are slashed. In the Independent, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown attacks Britain's political culture and argues that Britain's young cannot but feel resented, devalued and punished. Finally, a Times editorial blames airport incompetence - not bad weather - for the recent travel turmoil.
