TODAY'S SUMMARY

The internet has not given us freedom

16 December 2010

In the Guardian, Timothy Garton Ash argues that freedom comes from the brave actions of individuals, not new technologies, such as the internet. While the internet might not directly lead to freedom, it has heralded a new age of terrorism, according to Andreas Whittam Smith in the Independent. An editorial in the Times questions the wisdom of the Conservatives picking a fight over the NHS, one of their weakest policy areas. Also in the Times, David Aaronovitch criticises the police's handling of recent student protests and argues that calm policing is the best policing. On the BBC Blogs, Business Editor Robert Peston predicts that the severest test of the Eurozone is still to come, with Spain next in line for a bailout.
