TODAY'S SUMMARY

The students' revolt could prove contagious

06 December 2010

The students' power may be limited but their revolt could prove contagious, writes Gary Younge in the Guardian. Elsewhere, in the Times, Bill Emmott says that Russia's ability to host a successful World Cup rests solely on a high oil price. In the Washington Post, Kathleen Parker writes that Congress and Barack Obama need to work together on deficit reduction to avoid the markets imposing a punitive solution. Meanwhile, ahead of Thursday's parliamentary vote on tuition fees, the Daily Telegraph's Toby Young urges Nick Clegg to hold his nerve and avoid the "grave error" of abstaining. Finally, in the Independent, Mary Ann Sieghart argues that the current parental leave system needs to be reformed to ease the burden on women.
