TODAY'S SUMMARY

The Eurozone needs one big bailout

03 December 2010

If the European Central Bank is to contain the eurozone debt crisis it must produce a "shock and awe" package impressive enough to quell the doubts of the bond market, writes the Guardian in an editorial. In the Independent, Michael McCarthy writes that climate change cannot be stopped, and our focus must shift to mitigation. Peter Oborne of the Telegraph defends Nick Clegg, saying that unpopularity is an unjust reward for his willingness to compromise. The Economist believes that big banks are unlikely to leave Britain because of the disruption it would cause their business; more interesting is the question of whether other countries would want them. Finally, Martin Samuel writes in the Mail that there is a bright side to losing England's losing the World Cup bid: we can now criticise Fifa with impunity.
