TODAY'S SUMMARY

Miliband needs to be a relentless critic of the coalition

24 November 2010

In the Guardian,
Jonathan Freedland argues that Ed Miliband must supplement his calm approach with a regular, devastating critique of the coalition's cuts. Elsewhere, in the Daily Telegraph, Simon Heffer warns that George Osborne's £7bn loan to Ireland could be the last straw for the right of the Conservative Party. The coalition's ineffective and self-defeating immigration cap should be scrapped, argues an editorial in the Independent. Meanwhile, in the New York Times, Roger Cohen says that David Cameron's outspoken statements on foreign policy contrast with Barack Obama's ambiguous and hesitant approach. Finally, in the Times, Bronwen Maddox says that North Korea's latest artillery attack on the South reflects the need for Kim Jong-il's successor, Kim Jong-un, to win the support of the army.
