TODAY'S SUMMARY

George Bush failed as US president

10 November 2010

An Independent editorial says that George Bush failed as a president, leaving a once flourishing economy in ruins, and authorising the use of torture. Simon Heffer of the Daily Telegraph argues that David Cameron's employment of 26 people to manage his image makes him "smell like a monarch". On his BBC blog, Robert Peston suggests that China's trade surplus and the US's trade deficit are a source of global economic instability that world leaders must recognise. John Kay of the Financial Times asserts the need for evidence-based in light of methodologically unsound research linking alcohol and road accidents. Finally, Jeffrey Rubin claims in the Huffington Post that the increasing cost incurred from shipping goods to the US from China will allow South and Central American economies to compete on a level playing field.
