A Political Rorschach Test

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 12:09 AM PDT

I read an interesting article last week in the New York Times entitled Scientists and Soldiers Solve a Bee Mystery. The article detailed how some scientific researchers collaborated with Army researchers to solve the mystery of what was killing off honey bees. It turns out that the combination of a fungus and virus is proving fatal to the honey bee population.

Why is the government doing bee research?
While the article was interesting, it occurred to me that the story could be viewed … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Forex Trading: Dollar Continues To Slide Amid Disappointing Jobs Data

Posted: 10 Oct 2010 11:40 PM PDT

Dollar Continues To Slide Amid Disappointing Jobs Data
The U.S. dollar continues to slide on almost all fronts. As a result, during the past week the euro reached a 5-month high against the dollar and the Japanese yen saw a 15-year high vs. the greenback. Dollar-dominated commodities soared as well during the process; gold saw an all-time high of $1,364 an ounce, and crude oil marked a 5-month high of $84.40 a barrel. Can this trend continue this week as well?

Bear Of The Day: COPEL

Posted: 10 Oct 2010 11:05 PM PDT

Based on higher productivity and lower cost of capital, ANEEL (Brazilian National Agency for Electric Utilities) proposed a tariff adjustment for Companhia Paranaense de Energia, or COPEL (NYSE:ELP) of 9.74% on average, effective June 2010. This rule is essentially designed to regulate a monopolistic environment.
We are concerned about the political influence on COPEL’s affairs. The government of the State of Parana owns 58.6% of the company’s outstanding voting shares, which gives it the power to … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates

Expect To See Gold Rocket To At Least $1450

Posted: 10 Oct 2010 11:01 PM PDT

Lately I’ve been seeing quite a few analysts calling for a top in gold. I have to say these analysts know nothing about how cycles work because if they did they would realize that far from topping gold is just getting started.

Just as a preface let me point out that the fundamental driver of this leg up in gold is the same driver that it’s been for the entire 10 year bull market. Currency debasement, only now every country in the world is getting in on the race to the bottom. That … [visit site to read more] or compare Best Credit Cards and Best CD Rates
