In the Financial Times, David Frum explains that this is because, with unemployment still high, Obama has not actually improved Americans' lives, despite passing important legislation. Elsewhere, in the Independent, Yvette Cooper argues that the government failed to sign up to the EU directive on human trafficking because of its prejudice against the EU and has let down the victims of modern slavery. Meanwhile, a Times editorial maintains that David Cameron must refuse the European parliament's demand for a 6 per cent rise in its budget - the demand is arrogant and self-defeating at a time of austerity. Finally, in the Guardian, Mustafa Qadri discusses violence in Karachi, which risks becoming another warzone that Pakistan can ill afford.
