TODAY'S SUMMARY
Obama must change course on the Middle East
27 October 2010 In the Guardian, Jonathan Freedland writes that while Barack Obama deserves credit for sticking with the Middle East, he must change course if peace between Israel and the Palestinians is to become a reality. Elsewhere, in the Times, Tim Montgomerie argues that talk of a Lib Dem-Tory partnership beyond the next election is unrealistic. As the economic emergency passes, so will the willingness to suppress normal political instincts. Meanwhile, the Economist's Blighty says the latest growth figures suggest that fears of a double-dip recession are exaggerated. In the Independent, James Moore argues that the firefighters' strike could backfire by provoking the government into a new assault on the trade unions. Finally, in the Wall Street Journal, Fouad Ajami says that Hamid Karzai's willingness to accept aid from Iran reflects the decline of US authority.
