TODAY'S SUMMARY

Will the coalition reward those who shout the loudest?

 11 October 2010

In the Independent,
Mary Ann Sieghart says that the government's wobbly response to the child benefit fiasco highlights the danger of rewarding those who shout the loudest. Elsewhere, in the Times, Iain Duncan Smith argues that the coalition's Single Work Programme will help reduce the spiralling cost of welfare and will support the aspirations of the disabled. Meanwhile, on his Telegraph blog, Norman Tebbit analyses a new poll suggesting that voters are to the right of the government on spending cuts. In international politics, the Washington Post's George F Will explains why, for Obama, the worst result next month might be for the Democrats to retain control of both houses of Congress. Finally, in the Economist, Babbage asks if Google's robocars will one day make human drivers redundant.
