The Telegraph emerges as a surprise critic of Osborne's "ham-fisted" cuts to child benefit. Less surprisingly, Polly Toynbee heralds the cuts as the demise of all other non-means-tested benefits. In the Times, Anatole Kaletsky worries about the consequences of America's economic pessimism. Meanwhile, in the Washington Post, Eugene Robinson questions how "independent" the groups backing Republican candidates in the upcoming midterms are.
