TODAY'S SUMMARY

Internal strife rules in the Conservative Party

01 October 2010

In the Times, Fraser Nelson argues that Tory v Tory conflict has replaced the expected disagreements between the Conservatives and the Lib Dems in the coalition, as David Cameron sits back and lets his ministers get on with the hard work. Meanwhile, Bagehot in the Economist suggests that the new Labour leader, Ed Miliband, is wrong to idealise the "good society" while the public is facing such an extreme period of economic austerity. David Prosser in the Independent examines the coalition's temporary cap on immigration, finding that it is harming businesses' ability to make long-term plans for their workforce. Kevan Watts in the Financial Times points out that the current furore in India over the Commonwealth Games accommodation only serves to highlight the bigger crisis as the country faces up to its enormous infrastructure deficit. Finally, Cristina Odone in the Telegraph writes of President Obama's Christian credentials and predicts that his faith will become a major issue in the upcoming campaign for the midterm elections.
