Total retail sales rose 0.4%, a tick better than the 0.3% consensus expectation, and are up 3.6% from a year ago. The overall measure, the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, declined slightly for the third consecutive month in August, dropping from 67.1 in July to 66.9 in August.
