We upgrade our recommendation for Becton, Dickinson and Company (NYSE:BDX) to Neutral after taking into account its improved prospects for safety needles in Europe. However, we continue to be concerned about the lingering slowdown in demand growth for the company's products due to macroeconomic uncertainty, which is affecting hospital, lab and doctor-based demand for consumables in the U.S.
Becton reported third-quarter fiscal 2011 earnings per share of $1.29, which were higher than the … [visit site to read more]

Is Barack Becoming A Lameduck?

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 05:40 AM PDT

To know my Dad is to love him.
He wears his heart on his sleeve and is not hesitant to let you know exactly where he stands on the issues of the day. That said, what are his passions? His family above all else. His faith. He has no problem critiquing our Roman Catholic hierarchy while practicing his faith and allegiance to the principles of Christ. Irish history. To hear him talk about the brutal treatment of the Irish at the hands of the English is a lesson worth learning. Red Sox … [visit site to read more]

Forex Trading: Yen Selling An Opportunity To Rebuild JPY Long Positions

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 05:01 AM PDT

Safe haven trades were slightly stronger this morning despite some encouraging US data and an okay Irish debt auction. However, due to the low liquidity in Asia and Middle East, plus the summer  & holiday atmosphere still infecting most of the G10 nations, market moves should be taken with a grain of salt. Yesterday’s divergence between stock markets and EURUSD performance, highlights in our mind, the fact that traders are still heavily bearish EUR and to a lesser extent broader … [visit site to read more]

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 04:45 AM PDT

The Labor Department reported Thursday morning that new claims for unemployment dropped a seasonally adjusted 27,000 to 451,000.  Unexpected bullish news, right?  The markets immediately gapped-up on this information as the bulls found good reason to buy.  Unexpected positive news is almost always met with a bullish move north as it's rarely priced in.  However, a useful tidbit of information about that shockingly large drop came out after the gap-up.  Bloomberg reported that nine … [visit site to read more]

Profit Plays For Canada – The World’s “Safest Economy”

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 04:11 AM PDT

I’ve said it once, and I’ll doubtless say it a few dozen more times before the U.S. economy returns to health: Just because you have to endure recessionary conditions doesn’t mean that your money has to.

That’s the argument I make when I urge Americans to search for investments outside U.S. borders. Ironically, your money doesn’t have to travel all that far: What’s arguably the world’s “safest economy” is actually located just north of the border.

I’m talking, of course, about … [visit site to read more]

Insider Stock Buybacks For August A Bullish Sign For US Stock Market In The Near Term

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 04:07 AM PDT

The stock market as a whole just turned in its worst August performance since 2001, with the major indexes posting losses ranging from 4% to 6%. Yet despite those negative numbers, there was one group that didn’t act bearish at all – corporate insiders.

Insiders – the officers, board members and major shareholders of America’s corporations – are required by law to almost immediately report to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) any time they buy or sell the shares of their … [visit site to read more]
