Gone A.W.O.L – To Slovenia

Posted: 05 Sep 2010 12:15 AM PDT

I will find myself in Slovenia over the next week, with my wife Isabel and a group of ten South African travel and business journalists we have invited to first-hand explore this delightful country with the aim of boosting tourism and trade between South Africa and Slovenia.
Blog posting will be slow (and totally absent on some days) while I am on the road. The normal blogging service will be resumed on my return to Cape Town on September 12.
However, I will be "tweeting" regularly … [visit site to read more]

Posted: 05 Sep 2010 12:10 AM PDT

Stock markets have improved handsomely over the past three days, notching gains for four consecutive days and registering the first positive week since early August.
Will the rally have legs, or is it merely a bear market bounce?
According to Yahoo Finance – Tech Ticker, The Big Picture blogger Barry Ritholtz is taking it slow, "legging in" to test the waters. He is of the opinion that the S&P 500 Index is in a trading range market right now, with key support at 1040.

The comments below come courtesy of Dave Rosenberg, chief economist and strategist of Gluskin Sheff & Associates, sharing his latest views on the U.S. economy.
The U.S. employment report for August was uninspiring in the aggregate but the bright spots cannot be readily dismissed. First, the private payroll number came in at +67,000, which was above the consensus estimate of +40,000, not to mention the ADP print of -10,000. This, along with the upward headline revisions of 123,000 and the … [visit site to read more]

Chart Suggests Temporary Pause In EUR/USD Ascent

Posted: 04 Sep 2010 10:14 PM PDT

Hiyo my avid forex fans! In my previous article about the euro, I mentioned that its recent rally after breaking down from what appears to be a head and shoulders formation could be over soon. However, a full blown breakdown and a reversal did not really pan out as the euro bulls were able to out-muscle the bears to place them back on top.

As you can see from the EURUSD's 4-hour chart, the bears were forced to cover their short positions when the price of the euro went back above the … [visit site to read more]

High Roads To China

By Dian L. Chu, Economic Forecasts Opinions

Well, it is official now – in addition to the Great Wall, the Great Traffic Jam started on Aug. 14–60 miles and ten-day long on an “expressway” into Beijing from Inner Mongolia (see map)–has earned the capital of China the top spot among the cities with the world’s worst traffic…, at least according to Foreign Policy.

Although that logjam seemed to have cleared up, Reuters reported on Sep. 3 yet another similar 75-mile (120 … [visit site to read more]
