TODAY'S SUMMARY
Ed Miliband must move to prevent Blairite backlash 30 September 2010
Mary Riddell laments the departure of David Miliband from frontline politics in her Telegraph blog, saying that he will leave a vacuum the party can ill afford. Seumas Milne concurs in the Guardian, saying that the new leader will have to move fast to prevent a Blairite backlash by embracing his brother's supporters and imposing his authority on frontbenchers. Elsewhere, in the Times, Camilla Cavendish argues that slashing legal aid for vulnerable people could prove disastrous, with the family justice system in shambles and the cost rising inexorably. Over at the Independent, Andrew Buncombe and Omar Waraich warn that US drone strategy in northern Pakistan may fuel al-Qaeda's desire for revenge. Finally, in the New York Times, Thomas Friedman argues that the Tea Party movement is more of a "Tea Kettle" that is letting off steam, not effecting real change.
