Gold & Silver Mining Stocks: Are They Still Bargains? Posted: 22 Aug 2010 03:01 AM PDT This is Cardero Resource Corp (CDY), which I bought more of Friday at $1.03. CDY currently sells at .62X Book Value, has $1.20 per share in CASH and a tangible Book Value (Most Recent Quarter) per share of $1.68. Trailing Twelve Month PE = 1.23. 58M shares outstanding. So what is the catch? Why is this stock so obviously (or at least ‘apparently’) underpriced? I have no idea, other than to note that the stock market is not always either logical or fair. I do know that … [visit site to read more] |
Top 5 Economic Graphs For The Week Ended 22 August 2010 Posted: 22 Aug 2010 01:01 AM PDT This week we look at the Q2 GDP results for Japan and Taiwan; getting a gauge on how these two key Asian economies are tracking in their recoveries. Then onto the US where we look first at the industrial production results, which are a tad paradoxical, and then at the PPI stats which may be pointing to margin compression. Then we wrap-up with a view on Euro zone inflation. 1. Japan GDP |
Best And Worst Performing Industry Groups Posted: 22 Aug 2010 12:01 AM PDT After taking a look at the performance of various sectors, let’s have a look at the best and worst performing industries out there. The criteria I chose for picking out the very best and the rotten apples was the distance of the index from MA(20) and MA(50). Of the major industries, there were only two indexes out there that were above both their MA(20) and MA(50): (1) Gold/Silver Index - No surprises here. (2) Internet Index And now on to the worst. (1) No prizes for … [visit site to read more] |
Stock Trading: Best And Worst Looking Sectors Posted: 21 Aug 2010 09:59 PM PDT I thought it would be worthwhile to have a look at the individual sectors to get an idea of the extent of the damage done in the past few days and also to try and figure where the market is headed in the near future. Also, it is prudent to go with the strongest sector in case one wants to go long and similarly, short the weakest sector if one wants to go short. So, here are the charts of the major sectors. I have commented on the charts itself. To … [visit site to read more] |

Scary Times Ahead For The U.S. Stock Market? Posted: 21 Aug 2010 08:47 PM PDT Last week’s economic news and market action was decidedly scary; however, I’m feeling quite comfortable as we’re now positioned 100% to the “short” side in our Standard, High Conviction Trade Alert and Option Master Portfolios. The Standard portfolio now holds 5 inverse ETF positions, while the High Conviction Trade Alert is focused on action in the VIX and the Option Master gained +20.8% in unrealized gains this week with our new position opened on Wednesday. We expect more … [visit site to read more] |
China: Investing In The US After Unocal Posted: 21 Aug 2010 08:24 PM PDT After state-owned CNOOC was blocked from the Unocal acquisition in 2005, China has instead turned toward other countries such as Australia, Canada and Brazil for its natural resource strategic investments. While China is the top U.S. debt holder in the world, percentage-of-GDP-wise, the U.S. receives relatively very little non-bond investment from China, based on data tracked by The Heritage Foundation. (See chart) Part of this "allocation difference" could be attributed to the long … [visit site to read more] |
Posted: 21 Aug 2010 07:40 PM PDT 1. Do a Google Search for “tattoos” and the fifth result is this map below showing 18 tattoo parlors around Flint, Michigan: 2. That makes sense because according to MSNBC, Flint is the fourth most tattooed city in America (partly based on the number of tattoo parlors per capita). HT: Economix 3. According to this study, college students prefer tattooed professors. HT: Freakonomics and Marginal … [visit site to read more] |
‘History Is Littered With Bad Ends To Fiscal Irresponsibility’ Posted: 21 Aug 2010 05:55 PM PDT It’s probably fair to say that many people believe the best days of the American empire are behind us. That said, I would argue that the majority probably see a gentle decline, spanning decades or even centuries, with relatively minimal amounts of accompanying turmoil. |
