TODAY'S SUMMARY

Muslim countries have failed Pakistan

20 August 2010

In the Times, Mehdi Hasan criticises oil-rich Muslim countries for doing little or nothing to aid the flood-ravaged Pakistan. Elsewhere, in the Guardian, John Prescott, who is campaigning to be elected Labour treasurer, warns that the party is on the verge of bankruptcy with debts of at least £20m. Writing in the Independent, Robert Fisk says that claims the US is "leaving" Iraq can be safely ignored, since a third of the entire occupation force will remain in the country. In the Financial Times, Paul Kagame writes that Rwanda's democracy remains a model for the rest of Africa to follow. Finally, in the Washington Post, David Ignatius argues that Obama must seize the opportunity for direct negotiations with Iran as time runs out to prevent a new nuclear threat.
