To capitalise on this, the opposition must leave New Labour orthodoxies behind. Over at the Times, Antonia Senior argues that the war on drugs is lost - the solution could be laissez-faire legalisation that would commoditise drugs. China has displaced Japan as the world's second largest economy, and in the Financial Times, David Pilling draws comparisons between Japan in 1968 and China in 2010. Meanwhile, in the Wall Street Journal, Ralph Nader notes a growing concern over the autocratic, corporate-dominated nature of the US government, and the barriers to this becoming a political movement. Finally, in the New York Times, Thomas Friedman argues that America and Europe need structural fixes, requiring political consensus and sacrifice, to achieve sustained growth.
