TODAY'S SUMMARY

Cameron cannot claim to be middle class

12 August 2010

In the Daily Telegraph,
Toby Young says that the Prime Minister, with a net worth of £30m and an Eton education, is not in any real sense middle-class. Michael White writes in the Guardian that politicians and pundits who confidently predict the likelihood of a double-dip recession are bluffing. In the Independent, Hamish McRae explains that the long-term financial outlook is not bleak, despite the Bank of England admitting forecasts were overly optimistic. David Aaronovitch, writing in the Times, highlights the oppression of women in some societies and what it would be like if roles were reversed. Leo McKinstry, in his Daily Express column, explains that a direct EU tax would dissolve the remnants of British sovereignty.
